Benefits of Memoralisation

In the resolution of grief, it is widely recognised that visitation to a loved ones memorial headstone has very positive values. This statement is supported by international documentation on the psychological importance of cemetery memorials, regardless of whether burial or cremation is chosen.

Often we gather at a funeral to celebrate the life and death of a partner, a family member, a friend or member of the community. We are all touched by the death and are comforted by this public display of family support. In times of grief some people express and share their emotions with families. Others resort to defending themselves against memories by erecting emotional walls and barriers. Grief must take its natural course, as we look back as well as forward to find the balance between life and death.

For centuries, families have recognised the importance of erecting memorials to the deceased. These may be either elaborate or touchingly simple memorials. The passing of life now becomes a permanent record, represented in crafted and polished stone. The feeling expressed need never grow old or tired or worn. The  wording of the memorial may be factual or loving and warm and with the passing of time, families will visit and will learn of their past.

A memorial stone can act as a catalyst in helping the bereaved to focus on the past, setting hidden memories free and allowing healing and comfort in a persons grief. The Monumental Mason can help enormously in the choosing and placing of a memorial, following either a burial or cremation. Creating the right memorial is a craft which, enhanced by the beauty of natural stone and with its inscription on a past life, can become warm and expressive.

Should a person require something unique or individual this can be arranged The memorial can be inscribed with details of the life of the deceased, with poetry or prayer, religious symbols or intensive artwork. More and more these days we observe photographs on memorials, either ceramic reproductions or by new modern technology, that allows a photo image to be permanently etched into the granite.

The options of personalisation in stone, are only limited by your imagination. Artwork can depict the persons interest in life and provide family and friends with a vivid reminder of the enjoyment their loved ones received and gave. With the aid of computer technology, quality imagery such as photos of favorite places, special or favorite flowers, occupations, sporting interests, fine detailed logos and family crests, is now possible and can be seen in our memorial park cemeteries. The colour range now available in granite is quite extensive.

We are a nation of diverse ethnic cultures, each requiring its different needs. Choosing a memorial can be an intensely personal and private matter and a qualified Monumental Mason can provide this service.

Cremation memorials

Today people make the choice between burial and cremation. Our cemeteries provide special beams suitable for either full burial or cremation ash internments. On these beams, the monumental mason can erect a granite memorial suitably inscribed to the memory of a departed loved one.
Surprisingly, a large percentage of people deciding on cremation do not make provisions for disposal of ashes. This often leaves someone in the uncomfortable position of having to make a decision. Consider those left behind. People who say in jest or seriously 'just cremate me and throw my ashes away', do not realise the burden and even trauma this can place on many members of the wider family.
If no clear direction is given, ensure the ashes are retained until all family members are consulted. Do not be forced into a hasty decision. One person who can help you is the monumental mason. The interment options available in the local cemetery or other district cemeteries will be explained to you along with cremation memorial designs allowed. With careful thought and consultation, over time if necessary, a final resting place of value can be chosen for all descendants to visit.

Why choose Granite

Today the preferred material is granite

Over the years, memorials have been manufactured in varying styles from a number of materials. Today the preferred material is granite. This material will stand the test of time. The inscription when sandblasted on a granite memorial will be permanent. Provided it complies with the local cemetery by-laws, a memorial can be manufactured to a personal design. A Monumental Mason can explain these very important points when assisting you in choosing a memorial

Memorial Artwork

Memorials have become a lot more personal in recent years. Through advances in cutting and design techniques, it is possible to depict a persons hobbies, sporting interests, vocational activities, scenes from nature or even reproduce a likeness of your loved one on a memorial for the ultimate in personalisation. A memorial can be designed and inscribed to depict those special things you want to remember. With careful planning, a partner's inscription can be added to a granite memorial at a later time.
